When I get angry with the ignorance of the world, I write.

We're Queer! We're Here! And We Won't Be Ignored!
A Gay Opinion 7/28/01

A President acknowledged Gay Pride Month. A President lied to the country about engaging in sexual acts with an intern. A man used the legal system to lay claim to the office of President. An election was manipulated, and a legally recognized "President" refused to acknowledge Gay Pride Month.

We're still here!

An openly gay San Francisco city official was gunned down. A young Army PFC was bludgeoned to death. A young man was beaten and crucified in Wyoming. A young man in Colorado was beaten to death. A young man was shot to death by police officers in Washington DC. Two Canadian tourists were arrested and beaten by San Antonio Texas police officers.

We're still here!

A state voted to acknowledge same-sex civil unions. A different state voted to disallow same-sex unions and invalidate previously recognized legal unions. A youth organization fought for and won the right to discriminate against homosexuals. Religious organizations fight for the right to discriminate against homosexuals, and make secret deals with a legally recognized "President".

We're still here!

A lesbian couple separate and one of the partners decides she's straight. Another lesbian couple separated and another partner decided to be straight. An openly gay British citizen was Knighted. Two other Knighted men spoke openly of their homosexuality.

We're still here!

A cable television series about three brothers, one of whom happened to be gay was a sleeper hit for several television seasons. A network had a hit series about the friendship between an older gay man and pregnant teenage runaway. A world renown comic came out on her network television series before it was canceled. Another network has a hit with a series about a friendship between a gay man and a straight woman. Another cable series based on a British television series about homosexuality takes the US by storm.

We're still here!

So here's to the politicians who lie, and those who choose to ignore the truth. Here's to the police who violate human rights in the name of discrimination. Here's to the religious leaders who preach hate in the name of God.

We're still here!

Here's to all the out homosexuals, the openly gay men and women of the world. Here's to all those who refuse to be ignored now, so one day being ignored won't mean having to fight for basic human rights and respect.

Hey world! We're still here!
